Highway 5 is a more boring drive but 99 has too much traffic, too many commuter traffic windows to fit through. Then, there’s that place near Tracy where there’s suddenly a flashing red stop light (Atherton may be) and the stench from the slaughterhouse just up there ways. You’d never seen that many cows. So much ammonia from manure and the hot summer heat makes it hard to breathe. The winters see fog here so thick you can barely see the line in the road. Brake lights would be perilous and stopping or slowing too much
